Keith’s introduction to financial planning was born out of necessity; after his parents separated at the age of seven, he watched his single Mother pinch every penny to make ends meet. He marveled as she pressed forward, tirelessly earning her college degree, masters degree and a CPA designation while balancing the difficulties everyday life as a single parent brought.

When Keith turned eight, his uncles and grandfather purchased their first sailboat, Nightwind, and started taking Keith and his Mom sailing on weekends and holidays.  As their interest in sailing, and then sailboat racing grew, so did Keith’s involvement in a crew of family and friends.  Keith needed an outlet and his Mom needed a break!  As Keith grew up the boat became his second home and the racing community of the great lakes his broader family.

It is on this boat that Keith first remembers hearing the word, investment.  The coming years would be formative as Keith “couldn’t help but absorb everything around me.”  His Grandfather, now CEO of an international manufacturing company and two uncles; one on his way to becoming a well known trial attorney, and the other a successful investment manager were giving him multiple educations in one.  Between the bantering of tactical and strategic racing decisions were discussions of investment holdings, union labor battles and legal risk mitigation.  He believes sailing is the, “perfect parallel to investing” and credits his commitment to studying something you can never truly master for his ability to find unique planning strategies for his clients.

“One has to continuously monitor and react to the endlessly changing weather and sea states in order to reach the finish line in the most efficient manner possible.  No race is ever the same.  And, while past success can teach you what might work, it is only the foundation for what will be successful in your next challenge.  Just like investing and financial planning.”

Keith has competed in 20+ Races to Mackinac and countless other regattas with these uncles as he graduated from LaLumiere High School and then earning a degree at De Paul University.  In 2007, Keith and his Uncles won the Mackinac Cup, placing first overall.  The crew of Vytis is also a two time National Offshore One Design Champion, representing the Midwest Racing Fleet in the Virgin Islands Championship in 2009 and 2019; and a First overall Verve Cup Champion in 2009.  Keith has also competed in the Double Handed Race to Mackinac (a crew of two on a 35′ racing boat) placing fifth out of 21 in 2009.

In 2008 lightening struck when Keith found and then married his soulmate, Mary Margaret, in the spring of 2010. The following years added 3 children, Tomas in 2013, Catherine in 2014 and Margaret in 2018. Along with a house in Park Ridge near family.

After 10 years in the financial services industry, Keith joined Raymond James as an Independent Financial Advisor in 2006. He transitioned his practice to Raymond James on a Friday afternoon and has never looked back.  In 2012, Krause Investment Group was formed as an independent office of Raymond James Financial Services.  Raymond James and its well known reputation for fairness and integrity fit perfectly with his values.

Keith shares his passion for sailing with his wife and children and hopes someday to embark on a long voyage as a family.  They have planted roots in Park Ridge, IL and enjoy being part of the warm and friendly community.  Tommy, Cate and soon Maggie attend St. Paul of the Cross, where Keith and Mary are active parents at the school.

Keith’s Mom is now retired and spends time travelling with her husband, walking the beaches in Michigan and spends as much time with her grandchildren as possible.  Keith and his uncles still race during the short Chicago summers and even find the time to cruise once in a while with his Mom.  “They still educate me, I just don’t roll my eyes as often.”

Keith holds the ®AIF (Accredited Investment Fiduciary) designation, FINRA Series 7, 24, 63 Securities Licenses, and is Insurance Licensed.  He also coaches T-Ball, Basketball and Flag Football, enjoys a manhattan and wins BBQ Competitions.
